    Welcome to Room 101, the place where all the evils of mankind are stored, ready, should we require them as punishments…

    The rules for Room 101 are simple; someone nominates 5 things that they hate, 5 things that would make the world a better place if they didn’t exist. I look at their nominations and reasons and should I agree that thing will be put into Room 101. If more than 3 of the 5 go in then a bonus thing will be put in, even though I already rejected it. Should less than 3 go in then something evil will come back out.

    For this Wrestlemania Special Edition I decided to do the unthinkable. To commit what could be a terrifying mistake. To unleash the true horror of existence on mankind.

    That’s right. I let etz tell us the things he hates more than anything else in the world!

    Clowns

    [IMG]
    The product of fusing Jeff Hardy and Sting

    Yeah, I know... Still, they're creepy and it's not just the make up, per se. It's what the make up says which is basically that, at some point, you took an active decision to put on a disguise which renders you totally unrecognizable, go out in public, and play with kids. I think most people find that vaguely sinister and off putting. And yes, I do realise the irony of this given one of my other picks. But then my hatred of clowns isn't logical.

    While I hold the keys to Room 101 then clowns will NEVER be going in. In my student days I developed a love for the commedia dell'arte and so the art of clowning. And if that wasn’t enough you can’t help but admire the way a clown can be used in horror. I mean come on, Pennywise was simply magnificent.

    No, this is OUT!

    Rubber neckers

    [IMG]
    Oooooh, pain and suffering

    I understand the macabre fascination accidents can have, more than most people, but is it really necessary to come to a virtual stop as you crawl past the accident in the single open lane of the motorway? I mean, really? If people want to see something gross, there are websites that cater to that kind of thing. Think about it, these people are slowing down so they can spectate on human suffering, which says a lot about them. They also cause a hell of a lot of secondary accidents. But mostly, it's just that they hold up traffic immensely, costing me hours of my life which could be better spent.

    Well now I’m conflicted, I want to put them in because of the whole ‘come on guys, really?’ aspect, but you are arguing more for causing you an inconvenience? Yeesh.
    Still, I cant deny that you have a good point.

    OK fair enough, IN!

    Fe*kless Parasites

    [IMG]
    I’m looking for the Friend With Benefits office

    Into this category goes anyone who chooses to mooch off the system and makes no attempt to make any kind of positive contribution to society. I'm a socialist at heart, but socialism isn't about mollycoddling the lazy and the pathetic, it's about everyone making a contribution to the betterment of society. Whether they want to or not. Sitting on the dole, popping out babies and smoking meth doesn't qualify as a contribution. Fortunately for the rest of us, there's actually only a tiny percentage of people who fall into this category.

    As someone who lives off benefits I get wary whenever people bring it up. People are too quick to judge… because of people like you describe! Sure, I’d love to have enough money so that I don’t have to work, I’m sure most of us would. But it’s not how the country can work.

    Yeah, those scummy few give us all a bad name. IN!

    Racists

    [IMG]
    Damn those white dogs, holding the black dogs down man!

    Do I really need to say any more? I mean, really, just how dumb do you have to be to believe that the pigment of someones skin has any bearing on who they are as a person? Upbringing, sure. Culture and religion, I won't deny it. But to judge someone based on nothing more than their pigmentation is pretty bloody stupid. I lived with institutionalised racism as a kid in Apartheid South Africa, and the only thing it ever taught me was this : Racists are morons. People are so much more than what they look like on the outside.

    There’s actually proof that some races are smarter than others on average… but it’s by a matter of 1 or 2 points on the old IQ scale! Hardly enough to make a difference, hell there’s a bigger difference between me and my youngest brother. And I certainly don’t consider him a bigger waste of skin than me.

    Yeah, people should be judged on who they are, not what they look like.

    Bad parents

    [IMG]
    I don’t see what’s wrong with this

    Having children is one of the most important things anyone can do, so parenting them is equally important. How parents treat their children is a huge factor in how their children live their life and not to mention how they’ll bring up children of their own. So people who are disinterested, or abusive or just generally bad aren't just harming their children, they're leaving a legacy which may well echo down the generations. If you have kids, you have a responsibility to both them and society to do the best job possible raising them, so that they have the best chance of giving something meaningful to the world. That, and seeing kids being treated badly just makes me really, really mad. It should be the parents who stop that kind of thing, not carry it out themselves.

    As a nomination this is rather broad. Bad parenting is so obvious an issue, and what one person considers a bad parent another may have no issue with (spanking for example). Yeah, while I agree in principle this is too open for me to be able to put in.

    OUT.

    OK, that gives you 3 out of 5 Etz, so you get to put one more in against my wishes. What is your choice?

    Bad Parenting

    Hmmm, well it deserves it I guess, bad parenting is a terrible thing, but my original objections to the issue stand. Bad Parenting is IN!

    Thank you etz, I hope the world never sees your first five choices, it scared me, really bad.

    American football has the Super Bowl. Football has the World Cup. Athletics has the Olympics. The UK has the final of Celebrity Love Island. The WWE just so happens to have its own event. A event that started its existence as a regular televised affair hosted at Madison Square Garden and has evolved into a behemoth gracing even media realms outside of the wrestling and even the sports world, encompassing stars all over from both within the ring to movie and music stars and sports icons appearing to get their slice of the pie and fulfil childhood dreams. Of course this event is Wrestlemania.

    It is tough being a WWE fan. Hell it is pretty stinging being a professional wrestling fan, let alone when the mention of Sports Entertainment pops into conversation. Wrestling is not one of those passions many share with their cohorts in the office or discuss over a tipple during a night on the town with the lads. Donning the Matt Hardy Version 1 tee when heading out for a pint of milk is not really a regular occurrence unless you fancy a few glares. All those factors before we even get to the onscreen product. The embarrassing storylines that border on the ridiculous; the companies continued regurgitation of the same junk repeatedly as we sit in despair craving for the seemingly obvious to strike home with the boys orchestrating backstage. All topped off with a PG mentality that tends to patronise the older audience almost into submission while introducing comedic nuances to appease Vinnie Mac. So with all these factors compounding to drive us away from the product, why do we all still cling to our places within the WWE universe when there seems to be little left to keep us from switching to the other joys that Cable and Satellite TV brings?

    Memories. Nostalgia. Hope. Wrestlemania tends to encapsulate all of this into one neat blend. An event that not only helps to remind us on one night of why we loved the company, but also to rekindle the interest at least for a short spell if not kick those back into retuning in more regularly. One only has to look at the faces rearing their heads back on message boards all over the web around this time of year to see how it entices interest if even it is just for that one last shot. It is quite hilarious when I look around my online accounts and see friends whom have never shown any interest in the wrestling world outside of their house excitedly informing all they know of The Rock returning, of Stone Cold rearing his head, of HHH squaring up with the Undertaker. All of these returns occurring because of the built importance of Wrestlemania and the need to meet the milestones set before. But more importantly the reason these returns happen because for one time of the year the whole company comes as one and…cares.

    I caught Reginald G Hunter on my telebox mocking the Batman Returns tagline ‘To defeat fear one must become fear’. Strange to refer to at this point you may think, but the ideology seemingly behind Wrestlemania is that the company cohorts become fans in order to appease the fans. They draw back what aspired them and entertained them, they draw together the feuds they as fans want to see appeasing us with what we wish to see. Sure we get the many anticlimaxes, this years card alone is not the most exciting on paper but there is that one other factor that combines with both the fans excitement and the writers rekindling that helps to congeal the finished product, the wrestlers passion themselves to leave their mark. The legacies set in stone before are the challenge these guys aspire to match or even top, and other than home town returns or chances to face their idols this event is their chance to set in stone their name in the history books. Sure you can create a moment that sets a name for yourself in wrestling folklore, but to create a Wrestlemania moment that can be set alongside those of the idols you’ve grown up aspiring to be…it is the dream. Because the wrestlers care, because Vince cares, because backstage cares, because the cameo stars care, it can only lead to us caring. And that is the most important aspect of Wrestlemania and why it is still important today will continue being important no matter low some events may steep. Everyone will still relive the memories and nostalgia, will still hope for the future with the new crowd of stars and most importantly of all will still care about this event more than any other and throttle the throat of Vince McMahon if he ever does manage to bury it to the ground.

    We are approaching a chance to see the next chapter, and for this one night I just hope we all put all the cynicism to one side and enjoy it all for what it is worth, because without it we would lose all of those moments we have milked from our memories banks. So please, sit down comfortable and enjoy because as tough as it is to be a WWE and wrestling fan, it is the Wrestlemania moments that make it all worthwhile.

    Well hello.

    It's Newsletter time, it's WrestleMania time, that can mean only one thing – JEFF HARDY'S HIGH! No, wait, that's all day, every day... it means that it's time for the return of The BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG Question!

    Now, as you should all know, a wrestling PPV isn't quite complete without a feast of food, a smorgasbord of snacks, a mountain of munchies... you get the picture. So, for this glorious of days, I wanted to know...

    What's your WrestleMania snack plan? How are you going to stuff your face during The Showcase Of The Immortals? Crisps? Pizza? Or even *shudder* salad?

    ~~~~~~
    Red Cola Bottles? RED COLA BOTTLES??? Get out of my question, you heathen! HEATHEN!
    ~~~~~~

    Interesting. What is this “beer” you speak of, though?

    ~~~~~~
    I'm digging the pizza angle but vegetarian? Really? REALLY? Pizza is nothing without some ham or pepperoni, or even some bacon. Disappointing, sir. Disappointing. Especially as the writing on the toilet walls in the Champagne Room states that you specifically love the meat...
    ~~~~~~

    The questions here are multiple. With or without butter? With jam? Cheese? Chocolate spread? Dairylea? INFORMATION, SIR!!!

    ~~~~~~
    Man, I thought you were gonna hit me with a list of food I wasn't cool enough to have heard of. I'm upset AND disappointed in you. I'd imagine while you watch, in the background, you'll be updating ExitMusic as well... CHEAP POP!!!
    ~~~~~~

    Mmmmmmm crunchy! Save me a leg!

    ~~~~~~
    With what sauce? The nation needs to know!!!
    ~~~~~~

    No points... because I used it first! Thus, I now own your soul.

    *looks at MojoPogo's soul*

    Na, mate - you can have that back!

    ~~~~~~
    And me? How am I going to celebrate the festival of The Streak? With a munchy box. And if you don't know what a munchy box is, here's a photo of one:
    [IMG]
    I belive the phrase is "om nom nom"
    Happy WrestleMania day, folks!
    It’s that time of the year again! Spring and Easter are just around the corner. Oh wait, I’m forgetting something. That’s right; IT’S WRESTLEMANIA BABY, wrestling’s biggest night of the year. The night that champions are born, careers are solidified and we’re all left wondering...what the hell just happened!
    To celebrate I’ve put a very special WrestleMania edition of the Member Spotlight. Split in to 3 segments the spotlight focuses on...WrestleMania.
    Undertaker’s entrance – Wrestlemania XIV
    Quite possible one of the greatest entrances ever not just for the Undertaker but for any wrestler. It made me want to see the match just because of the entrance! Before this I was not even sure I cared about this match but the entrance just made me want to see more.
    Kurt Angle vs HBK – Wrestlemania XXI
    The promo for this feud gave me goosebumps, it was built up so well and made the match a big deal. In the lead up to WrestleMania both men tried to outdo each other trying to prove who the better wrestler was.
    The match itself is probably one of the best in WrestleMania history, just 30 minutes of pure enjoyment and captivating action yo-yoing back and forth, with a good amount of mat wrestling and high flying moves. There were so many moments where either man could have won, it was as close to a perfect one on one match you can get!
    WrestleMania. The very name creates a buzz among wrestling fans like no other event in history. In fact, since the very first one back in 1985, WrestleMania has been, and most likely always will be, the biggest show in the professional wrestling calendar.
    But which of these pay-per-view extravaganzas, which ones of the previous TWENTY SIX "Grandaddies of Them All" have been the most successful? Well, that all depends on how you judge success.
    To that end, allow me to present to you the top five most successful WrestleManias in three separate categories; attendance, PPV buyrates and gate receipts on the night. For the purposes of this article, the attendances are the given totals from WWE themselves, so no "WrestleMania III didn't draw that many" arguments are to be had here and the main-events are considered to be the last match on the card.
    It'll be no surprise to see which event came top for attendance, but will there be any of the other entries that shock you in regards to how well they did? Well, let's find out...
    Well, hello. Welcome to “Quote, Unquote” WrestleMania Edition. Specifically, The Streak edition – and I don't mean Mideon *shudder*
    Kam, Our Glorious Leader, asked me to take a look back at one of the more interesting threads over the past year in the US Scene forum : WrestleMania 27: The Undertaker vs Sheamus?. This was ostensibly about that legendary winning streak of The Undertaker. The thread veered off, and covered a lot of ground. Let's take a look...
    Actually, a very telling analogy. If it was from The Icon, we'd ask him where he cut 'n pasted it from :)
    Indeed, and Maxximus wasn't the only one to express this thought.
    However...
    Damn you and your logic!
    There is a school of thought that supports this; indeed Triple H himself says such a thing on the recent True Story Of WrestleMania DVD.
    And there's that man again, correctly being referred to in a match that the WWE are choosing to ignore during the build up to this year's show.
    Well, someone was a clever cookie!
    … and someone wasn't ;)
    And the rumours of Sting arriving in the WWE were stronger this year than they ever were before...
    Almost...
    The defence rests! :)
    Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat: You still got it! - WrestleMania XXV
    Chris Jericho vs WWE Legends...I have to admit I didn’t expect a lot from this match. Despite me hating Jericho for beating down the legends, insulting them and generally being a complete bastard.
    Then came the most unexpected moment; Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat still had it, it was like he had never retired. Throwing back the years Ricky gave a master class on how to wrestle leading to this particular fan marking out, screaming and shouting at the TV screen not quite believing what I was seeing, a joy to watch and possibly one of the greatest surprises ever!
    Ric Flair’s retires - WrestleMania XXIV
    This was the match I never wanted to see, the end of an era; Ric Flair retiring from wrestling. It's one of the few times I have cried whilst watching wrestling. The match was pretty close going back and forth, leading me to think Flair could win, turn to the camera and decree that Ric would never retire. But unfortunately the end had to happen, a clearly emotional Michaels had to deliver Sweet Chin Music, twice mouthing “I’m sorry, I love you” before sealing Flair’s fate. With the three-count Michaels sent the 16-time World Heavyweight Champion into retirement.
    Chris & Eddie - WrestleMania XX
    Before Chris Benoit became famous for non-wrestling reasons you could argue Benoit was the greatest technical wrestler of his generation a certainty for the Hall of Fame leaving behind a great legacy.
    His true highlight came at Wrestlemania XX. Benoit faced long odds in a Triple Threat Match against Shawn Michaels and Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. But Benoit managed to come out on top after forcing Triple H to submit. It was a special moment for Benoit, his friends and the fans that had begged for this opportunity to happen.
    Seeing Benoit crying with joy not really believing what was happening, yet realising he had finally made it was fantastic. After emotionally showing the title to the crowd turning round to see his long-time friend and WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero in the centre of the ring waiting to congratulate him as both wrestlers shed tears was a joy to behold, possibly the greatest Wrestlemania moment ever.
    This is what Eddie had to say about that night...
    So, Wrestlemania is only 7 days away...well it will be by the time you read this. All the polls are coming out, the card is (almost) set, you're watching old Manias, here's when you start to get excited. I'm getting excited, anyway, so here's my predictions and thoughts for the show.
    Corre vs Kane, Big Show, and ?
    No idea how this match is even going to end up yet. After Smackdown I assume Kofi will be on the babyface team, but that seems to leave it 4 vs 3. Christian doesn’t fit in there anymore and there's nobody else who wouldn’t be totally random. To be honest after SD, 3 vs 3 with all the belts on the line is the most appealing option. But, who knows. Anyway, whatever it ends up being, I'm sure it will be fine. The heels will bounce off the giant men, Kofi is great, and if WWE have ever put on a bad multi-man match, ever, I haven’t seen it. I can only imagine that Corre wins (especially if belts are on the line) since there needs to be some heel wins on the show, but obviously the babyfaces winning wouldn’t shock me either.
    United States Championship
    Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan
    This match, like a few others on the card, mainly depends on how much time they're given, and if the crowd cares at all. They've worked well together on Raw in the past, so if they get something close to 10 minutes I'm sure they can have a hell of a match. If they get 5 minutes, well, it will be a great 5 minute match. But this has real potential to be great. Once again, if I had to pick a winner, and I guess I do, I'll go for Sheamus, just for the heel-face balance.
    Snooki & Trish & Morrison vs LayCool & Dolph
    I LOVE THESE WOMEN. Well, not Snooki, but you know what I mean. Best case scenario (enough time and minimal BS) this could turn out pretty good. Morrison and Dolph will work great together, Michelle and Layla are workers and Trish seems to be back on the horse. Add in some shenanigans with Vickie and Snooki, and we have the potential for some FUN. I'm going to enjoy the crap out of it, anyway. Snooki's team to win.
    Randy Orton vs CM Punk
    I'm kind of interested in this match. I'm as interested as I can be from having watched a well-booked and well-paced feud, but with someone I just can’t care about at all otherwise. Anyway, the match itself should be fine, Orton matches aren’t that great as a babyface but he should be above average with Punk, and the heat will be there. Logical finish is Orton winning, after the build.
    Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes
    THIS IS A MATCH. I am just so, so pumped for this match. This feud has been so great, if you don’t watch Smackdown you are missing the hell out with this. Incredible build. This is another match where the quality will mainly depend on how much time they get. I just hope to God they get 10-12 minutes because they can seriously steal the show. I'm not sure who will win, I'd lean towards Rey just because it’s Mania, plus he needs redemption in the feud. Cody could possibly win if they want to keep it going for a while, plus this is all a vehicle to get Cody over. But Rey to win and Cody looking good in defeat make the most sense.
    Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler
    Speaking of feuds...THIS IS A FEUD. What a build. Apart from Rey/Cody this is BY FAR the match I most care about. Cole is one of the greatest heels ever just for 'I want this guy to die' value, and finally, FINALLY getting to see Jerry Lawler kick the everloving CRAP out of him is going to be awesome. This will be everything you expect; stalling, chickensh*tting, interference, Lawler punches, Stunners. And above all, a giant-ass babyface victory. And I mean, this better be great because the last 12 months of Michael Cole being so excruciatingly horrible and ruining TV needs to be worth it here.
    World Heavyweight Championship
    Edge vs Alberto Del Rio
    Alberto RULES THE WORLD. This is another feud that’s been built rather well, I have to say, I'm quite looking forward to this. There's still the possibility that Christian gets involved, I don’t know that he'll be added to the match this late in the game, but there's always the finish as an option, although Christian going heel on Edge would be just the worst idea ever. Anyway, Edge and Alberto work pretty well together, it’s gonna be a pretty good match. Alberto wins. It’s his destiny.
    WWE Championship
    The Miz vs John Cena
    This is going to be interesting. Look, to be honest, I think the match itself is going to be better than most people expect - they've worked Raw a couple times when Cena was not squashing the guy and it was surprisingly good. The main problem would be that the heat won’t be there while people are staring at the entrance waiting for Rocky, and people don’t buy Miz as it is. Hopefully whatever they're doing with the three of them works, I mean it has to after all of this. Cena winning seems to be the safe bet, and I will e-bet on it, but I can see Miz winning, especially since Cena/Rock is the main focus and this isn’t closing the show.
    Undertaker vs Triple H
    Now, THIS IS A...well, it’s not that interesting, actually. Its fine, I mean, its fine. I don’t care about HHH, but the match will deliver. I just can’t imagine it not delivering. It won’t be Taker/Shawn, but nothing else is either. I expect it will be pretty great with the appropriate 'epic' sell and big spots and kickouts and so on. No idea who's going to win, I-oh, wait, right.
    Anyway, the show should be good. None of these matches look less than good to me, allowing for time constraints of course. A couple - Bryan/Sheamus, Rey/Cody, Edge/ADR, HHH/Taker - should be pretty great. And a couple - Rey/Cody, Cole/King, Cena & Rock - have been built so well that I just cannot wait to see them go down. Hell, its Wrestlemania. I'm going to enjoy myself. Hope you all do too.
    Now all I want to know is why I was talking about women in the Taker thread.
