First there was this...

... which got pulses quickening due to the way the colour was used being evocative of RDR, but could have been a number of things overall.

However, earlier today, Rockstar posted another image...

... and this one is unmistakably Red Dead in some form.

Some sites are hinting it could be a remaster (although with the original only just going backward-compatible for XBox One, it seems redundant), while others are adamant it is a brand new game, though could be a prequel.

Either way, there is definitely some Red Dead news to come.

A lot of places are speculating that whether it's a new game or a remaster, we could be getting the trailer as early as this week.

I'm leaning more towards it being a new game in the franchise, since they've already released RDR as one of the backwards compatible games on the xbox one. If they were issuing a remaster, then I imagine they'd have gone the Skyrim route and refused to make the old version backwards compatible.

any new game pretty much has to be a prequel as the game itself was set near the end of the cowboy era

With regards to your spoiler, deeser, word is that the game is going to be set before the time of the last game (if not a direct prequel). Especially with the last game's time-frame being at the end of the Old West and...

Jack having already hunted down the main man responsible for his dad's death.

Some sites have been analysing the "Magnificent Seven" shot and spotted that three of them look remarkably like Marston, Dutch and Bill from RDR.

Judging by your spoiler, I didn't actually finish the game completely, because I don't remember that happening? Or I did it in a rush and just kinda glazed over it.

I guess with the multiple player mechanic in GTAV it'd make sense that you play as members of a gang you can switch between, I just don't know how interested I'm gonna be in the story of Dutch's gang? Ah well, roll on next year so I can find out.

Reminds me of the first GTAV trailer, where they don't bother with anything other than "Hey everyone, look how f*cking beautiful this world we're gonna turn you loose in looks".

Which I'm totally okay with.

There's a lot to look forward to, especially as this is the first game Rockstar have developed with the current-gen as the priority, so they'll have a lot more to work with (GTAV is great, but that is still an remastered PS3 game).
