Poor old Matt Bloom, the artist formerly known as Prince Albert, Albert, A-Train and Giant Bernard. After seven long years away from WWE and after receiving numerous plaudits from critics and fans for leaving the 'E' and trying his luck in Japan Matt Bloom returned on April 2nd 2012 as Lord Tensai, a Japanese inspired gimmick.

After reading and watching some of Matt's exploits in Japan I was personally thrilled when WWE decided to re-sign 'A-Train'. After all those years away Bloom had turned into a wrestler to be proud of, with an improved work-rate and skills set the time was right for Bloom to return, wreak havoc and show the western world what they were missing.

As soon as the first vignette aired my heart sank, here I was expecting Giant Bernard to come crashing onto our screens as the monster he had become but instead we got a stereotypical Japanese/U.S gimmick dust and all. Did Brock's return on the same show hamper Bloom's return or what it just the fact that Lord Tensai kinda suck's.

Without a doubt the gimmick is cheese but it could have been easily redeemed. I think having his debut on the same show as Brock hurt him with the fans.

What the 'E' should have done is wait to debut him at Extreme Rules. Have him do a 'walk in' during the Cena/Lesnar match when both men are down, saunter into the ring and choke bomb the hell out of both of 'em. The officials try to stop him but he shrugs them off leaving the lockerroom to empty out to try and keep him from killing the both of them. He takes out all comers. While he's distracted, Cena gets to his feet and stalks Tensai. Tensia turns and Cena pulls him into the firemans carry to FU his ass. Tensai drops behind him, Cena turns and gets blasted in the face with mist then Claw slammed. The whole scene is a mess with bodies with Tensai standing above the remains. Both main event men are out so the match is a no contest. That keeps both Cena and Lesnar strong and makes Tensai look like a legit beast.

That's what I would have done anyway.

They're having him crush lower midcarders to get a bit of a run going. I'm sure he's going to tangle with one of the more notable superstars soon enough. The gimmick is stereotypical, but then Vince loves going the xenophobic route.

    I like him actually.

Tensai has had two matches since the character debuted and those two matches have been against two talents that no one cares about (Alex Riley and Yoshi Tatsu), so I think it's a bit too soon to be calling Tensai a failure.

I really don't believe that Brock Lesnar's return lessened Tensai's debut in the least.

So long as He's SEEN crushing dudes, he's doing his job right - even if nobody cares about them.
He's being the monstrous heel midcard guy, it's sort of what they do.

Really? Ask 10 wrestling fans what happened on that episode of Raw. Each and every one of 'em will say Brock Freaking Lesnar. If they don't I'll eat my hat.

I mean average wrestling fans. The ones that make up a majority of the audience. Not Smarky McSmarkerson.

But he's the only one I've seen do it dressed as a Geisha

Doesn't really make much difference, that.

This is a thread that makes me want to close the internet down and blow it to smithereens.

He's had two squashes! He's had about 10 total minutes of TV time! Nothing has gone wrong yet, nothing has barely even happened, and his comeback is already over?! Jesus Christ. It hasnt even begun yet. Calm the f*ck down with the doomsday hysteria.

I like his character so far. Stereotypical as it is.

The one thing I will say is he needs shorter squashes. The two matches lasted longer than necessary.

In a weird way the long squashes are getting over in my house. My mother already thinks he's just evil because he wont pin the guy and end the match, he just keeps picking him up and hitting more and more moves. I kind of like it, in that sense.

Well its something different I guess. But I can see it getting old fast after 3 or 4 times. So I would rather not see it again

If he brough a Kitana down to the ring and started slicing water melons in half, that'd be more entertaining

Im with lord tensai on this one. The character to me is fine, hes big, intimidating and he has a track record of some kind. I like the clawhold it looks ruthless and agressive and looks like hes squeezing a sour melon. Nobody will know where he is going til he gets into actual competition and then we will see how much he has improved from the a-train.

I quite like it. I agree with the WWE in not going with Giant Bernard, the "giant American" gimmick would just get lost on WWE's, seeing as most of the company is giant Americans anyway. That gimmick really only makes sense in Japan, where wrestlers tend to be much smaller, and considerably less American.

As someone who's been watching him in Japan, I can tell you he's DEFINITELY improved from his A-Train/Albert days. He's no master, but he's a perfectly good power-moves guy, so I'm optimistic.
