Four English teams made it to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. Even though it is clear one team will be eliminated at this stage, having this number of teams at this stage of the competition is no mean fete.

Can we assume that this dominance points to English football improving over time?

I believe dominance is pointing towards English football. English teams have invested heavily and improved tremendously over the last couple of seasons. Furthermore, teams in the English Premier League teams are more evenly matched; it is therefore increasingly difficult for one team to totally dominate the league which makes it very exciting.

Premier league clubs also receive substantial amounts in TV rights and this has helped these teams to strengthen and improve over time.

It would be great to see this kind of competition replicated in other countries too.
