I love this show, but I haven't seen any of the new series. To be honest, I didn't even know there was one, so I'll definitely be checking this out.

Theres a bit of a hot blond bird whos a total bitch on this series. Its funny when she gets angry or upset as she sticks her chin out like Jimmy Hill.

Well worth it John. I enjoy his work, I like the Kitchen Nightmare series he does in the US too.

I prefer the British Kitchen Nightmares to the American one. The American one is way, way too over produced, edited and staged, and every week he comes in and basically does the same thing. In the British one, it was different challenges each episode, whether it was the menu, the budget, the location, the advertising, the management, etc, the American one is just;

- Taste food, call it sh*t
- Find dirt in kitchen, make people clean it up
- Get in argument with manager or head chef
- Threaten to walk out and claim it's the first time you've ever done it
- Hold some sort of pointless promotional / team building exercise
- Completely redesign the restaurant and menu to the point that's it's basically yours
- Have a good opening night
- Play dramatic string music as you bring a family closer together. Double points if they're ethnic or have an identifiable quirk. Triple points if one of the family is dead.

I bet, just to up the ante, he'll eventually "find" a dead body down the back of a fridge.

One of the restaurant owners from it killed themselves last year because Gordon failed spectacularly to change anything about the restaurant other than give them low self esteem and bad publicity. It was pretty big news in America, and now people are starting to go off him slightly. They started doing research on the effect he has on restaurants, and he's pretty universally terrible for business.

One of the people from Hells Kitchen (series 2 I think) also killed herself.

I thought they did a check on how Ramsay did a couple of years back and it was found he had turned around about a third to a half of them? Which given what he faced half the time I'd call that a win myself. Thats from memory mind.

I think you're probably right, but it's easy to spin either way. You see it as 33.33% better than before, whilst someone who wanted a negative angle could say that's a 66.66% failure rating. It's all about how you present it.

I watched an old episode of Kitchen Nightmares. I forgot the name but the state of the fridge was disgusting.

Made me laugh when Gordon starting slapping that mould against his hand. :lol:

John / Darkstar - New series of Kitchen Nightmares started last night. Should be on 4 on demand, if you haven't seen it yet. Going to watch it now. :)

Yeah, the first episode is up on Youtube (completely legally) in the U.K. ;

The season ended in May in America, so I've seen them all already. It's a pretty good series, but the American version is just so formulaic now that it's a bit boring.

- Arrive
- Make off-colour comment and show a close up of the waiter looking unsure what to say
- Insult food, preferably whilst making sh*tty jokes, or asking God to save you
- Identify a bad guy for the episode
- Say "Goodnight" in a grumpy voice
- Close up of an ethnic mother crying
- Make slight changes to look like you're doing something but not enough to stop the service from f*cking up. Blame the bad guy.
- Make bad guy cry by bringing up something from the past that doesn't matter
- Re-design restaurant
- Re-design menu
- Have the best service ev... oh wait, something going wrong... no, don't worry, the previously identified bad guy has turned it around and now he's seen the light
- Play some Hollywood happy ending music
- Former bad guy cries
- Leave

I'd take one series of the British Kitchen Nightmares for ten of the American one, and all their horrible violin sound effects, and staged scenes, and rock music, and 0.2 second shots of things like it's an episode of Cribs.

Yeah, series 1 was ace, 2 was pretty good. Now its just run of the mill. Still, having worked in kitchens I quite enjoy seeing the actual stuff there. I recognise far too much of it...
