Well within the rules, but bad sportmanship?

I think he was well within his right.

Protect yourself at all time. Ortiz failed.

I still can't stand Floyd 'Master of the 25 million dollar suckapunch' Mayweather though. He needs his ass beat.

Thoughts on Mayweather Ortiz Fight - Did Mayweather Take a Cheap Shot?

What are your thoughts on the Floyd Mayweather Victor Ortiz Fight. I believe that Ortiz let his guard down and thus a smart and agile fighter like MM took advantage.

It was a cheap shot, yeah, but by the letter of the law, it was also legal.

The real person at fault was the referee. He's terrible and showed how inept he is by confusing the situation last night. There was no clear indication of what was happening and when the final two punches landed, he was looking away. Crazy.

To me it looked like Ortiz went for a headbutt, ironically got the worst of it, then Floyd put him down while he was trying to shake it off. I wouldn't even say it was unsporting, because turnabout is fair play.

But then, hypothetically speaking, I'd say Floyd returning the favor and breaking Ortiz nose with a headbutt of his own would have been fine too. Don't pull that shit first if you can't take it in kind, and don't be surprised when it comes back to you if you do.

It was just a f*ck up from all 3 guys. The ref should've had more control of the fight, Ortiz shouldn't have thrown a headbutt, and Mayweather shouldn't have lost his rag as a boxing professional.

As it stands though, if I was in a boxing match and my opponent headbutted me, then tried to offer up some half a*sed apology mid way through a round, I'd use it as an opportunity to knock his a*s out too.

Just watched the KO on you tube, as others have said it comes down to 5 words Ortiz didn't take to heart "Protect yourself at all times", and to be honest I think he was stalling by the way he went up to Mayweather when he got flattened. Basically he dropped his guard when he shouldn't and got caught. I really wouldn't call it a particularly cheap shot, it wasn't like Ortiz had his back to Mayweather or wasn't aware of where he was.

Un-sportsman-like, but totally legitimate. It's like scoring a goal in footballer when a member of the other team is injured instead of kicking the ball out of play. It's a dick move, but it's completely legal.

In a similar note, I've always wanted to see someone in MMA swing for the knockout when the other guy's got his hand up for that glove pat thing they do at the start of fights.

I'm sure someone did it relatively recently (might have been Ross Pearson).
