Do you think this will pave a way for more transgender contestants in the future? I'm sure more transgender contestants will have the guts to join beauty pageants because of what Miss Ponce of Spain had accomplished. I'm just not sure if this is a fair play for natural born female contestants.

I can't speak to the rules of all beauty pageants, but as far as the Miss Universe one goes, they're on the same playing field. You're probably thinking "Well they're transgender, that means they had to have surgery to achieve their new appearance" and that's true - but all contestants are allowed plastic surgery, and many of them have had it, regardless of transgender issues or not. They also don't separate women who've had surgery, so you'd have no idea who has or hasn't had enhancements done of any kind.

But I think a bigger problem than tackling whether it's fair or not for post-op women to be competing with non-op women in beauty pageants is the ridiculous standards, rules, and control these organizations enforce over their competitors.

I always thought it was weird and awkward seeing the contestants walking around in swimsuits and high heels. What are the judges looking at and why? These pageants are stuck in an unhealthy time warp.

I think this will encourage more transgender people, if it hasn't already, to compete not only in the fashion industry but in other fields too. Furthermore, it may give people from minority groups an increased sense of self-confidence.

I agree with Zack on the rules of the pageant. Many of the contestants have done cosmetic surgery that choosing the winner is like selecting the contestant who has the best cosmetic surgery done on her.

I suppose we can do nothing with how the judges do the judging because we actually don't know how they judge the contestants. Speaking of this contest, I've researched that Venezuela has the most wins in the Miss Universe pageant. I'd like to visit that country to know why.
